The Loop Issue Twenty-Four

Letter from the Editor

The wait is finally over, mark your calendars for the 8th annual Michigan Fashion Media Summit on March 28th, 2025. We are SO excited to announce our inspiring speakers and amazing partners super soon…follow us on Instagram to be the first to hear. With Steve Madden as presenting sponsor, and InStyle sponsoring the TNLP, we cannot wait to reveal more from behind the seams.

With that, welcome to another exciting week in fashion. In the midst of Milan fashion week, with Paris just around the corner–and not to mention the Oscars–exciting things are debuting. Speaking of, a SKIMS x Nike collaboration was just announced and we’re freaking out. As a bit of a pivot, we’re tapping into our corporate style with winter suits and inspiration from this week’s Style Spotlight: a micro-influencer from Copenhagen whose blending edgy modernism with futuristic wearability.

One last thing, be sure to check out our collaboration with Gracious MFG – an NYC based brand balancing cultural inspiration from the city with nostalgic luxury. Article coming out soon.

We hope to see you all in just 30 days at the Summit!

With love,

IN THE NEWS:

Our favorite looks from NYFW

Amongst the front row guests at runway shows from YSL to Brandon Maxwell, a few stood out for their elegant runway looks. At the Calvin Klein show, Nara Smith rocked a belt-synched black trench coat with a subtle red neckline to give a little pop. Keke Palmer sported a baby pink, backless, satin dress from Brandon Maxwell’s spring collection, complete with silver accessories for a refreshing look amongst the dominating neutrals. Perhaps the simplest look, Lila Moss stepped into the YSL Candy Club event in dark wash jeans, sheer white tank top, and tuxedo jacket, finishing it off with a sleek black leather bag.

The Beauty Slowdown

From Sephora kids to Korean skincare trends, a beauty industry slowdown was not on our bingo card for 2025. In the last two weeks, three of the biggest beauty conglomerates–Estée Lauder, Shiseido, and Coty–reported a drop in fourth quarter sales. Buzzy labels like Drunk Elephant, to long-time go-to’s like Tom Ford, brands across the board are experiencing slow downs in sales, lack of innovation, and differentiating insights. Rebound strategies range from tapping into their roots to development of innovative marketing campaigns to acquire new customers. One thing remains the same: brands MUST be ahead of the curve with trends to stay competitive.

The Super Bowl: Fashion’s Game

Kendrick is known for telling stories through fashion, which remained true for his Super Bowl performance look. The rapper was styled by Taylor McNeill, sporting bootcut Celine jeans and a custom leather Martine Rose varsity jacket with “Gloria” embroidered on the front, which translates to “glory” in Spanish, symbolizing his artistic journey and acclaimed lyrical penmanship. An oversized chain with a lowercase “a” pendant was a nod to one of his most recognized lines: “Tryna strike a chord and it's probably A-minorrrrr.”

SKIMS x Nike is Officially Happening

Just when we thought SKIMS couldn’t merge into any other category, they’ve officially entered sportswear. NikeSKIMS officially announced the collaboration explaining, “This partnership will empower individuals to move with confidence and express themselves authentically, merging SKIMS' focus on body confidence and self-expression with Nike's relentless pursuit of athletic excellence” (Nike). We’re hoping the collection will help bring Nike out of its months-long decline, patiently awaiting the designs.

TREND WATCH: Winter Suits

If there's anything we learned from NYFW, it's that winter suits are definitely an IN. Stars such as Hailey Beiber, Kendall Jenner, and Rhianna have been spotted in this office-chic attire, adding their own twists. From neck scarves to pointed kitten heels to chunky belts, this timeless style is making a comeback–and it's all about the styling. From monochrome, oversized tuxedos to pin-striped skirts, one can take suits any direction they want, making them the it-girl outfit of winter 2025.

This week’s sustainability spotlight is on Katrine Ken, a micro fashion influencer based in Copenhagen. Her eclectic style seamlessly blends art and fashion. By incorporating bold colors and dynamic patterns with everyday staples, her looks emphasize conceptual fashion, futurism, and an eye-catching edge. We’re using her as inspo for spicing up our boring class outfits and professional uniforms.
