The Loop Issue Twenty-Three

Letter from the Editor

February is already bringing the heat…and it's not just because of Taylor Swift’s fire red Grammys look. With a red carpet, NYFW, and a ton of Valentine’s Day collection drops, fashion has had a busy past two weeks. Personally, I’m ready to get cozy in my dusty red Madhappy set, stalk the debut designer collections from last week, and run to the SmlWrld x A Squared pop-up for a Valentine’s Day latte.

This past week we saw the exit of both the Ferragamo CEO and Gucci’s creative director, and are anxiously awaiting their replacements. With fashion moving at lightning speed, we’re encouraging you to tap into self expression: from South-Asian inspired jewelry and fur coats, to the announcement of the Met Gala theme, fashion never fails to be an ebb and flow of ideas, trends, and styles.

Wishing everyone a happy Valentine's Day!

With love,

IN THE NEWS:

Red Carpet looks from the Grammys

On Sunday, February 2nd, pop culture’s biggest names stunned the 2025 Grammys red carpet with show-stopping looks. Chappel Roan, who took the prize for Best New Artist, hit the carpet in an archival 2003 Jean Paul Gaultier gown. The look was complete with the complimentary feather headpiece, which Roan styled with her traditional drag-inspired glam. Doechii turned heads in a custom Thom Browne school-girl-inspired outfit with structured shoulder pads and trousers. But the most notable moment of the night? Taylor Swift’s subtle nod to her boyfriend Travis Kelce through a dainty “T” chain hung below her mini red dress. If engagement rumors weren’t circulating before, they are now.

Sabato de Sarno exits Gucci

Sabato de Sarno is leaving his role as Creative Director of Gucci after just two years. After working under Valentino’s Creative Director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, Sarno came to the fashion house ready to tap into the brand's universal, iconic qualities. He brought a more reserved, tailored aesthetic which proved effective in generating fashion buzz and store traffic after a lull. The brand will be sad to see him go, but excited for the next chapter.

Valentines Day Collections

We’ve been LOVING to see all the V-Day collection drops as of late. A few of our favorites include Skim’s pajama and intimate sets, Madhappy’s sweatsets, and Parke’s loungewear. Be sure to snag yours fast!

The Met Gala 2025: Tailored to You

Every year, the Met Gala releases a dress code in support of the year theme, meant to provide guidance and inspire creative interpretation when picking the perfect look for the event. This year, Vogue has announced the dress code as “Tailored to You”, a nod to this year’s theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Vogue says the theme “will explore the role of sartorial style in forming Black identities, focusing on the emergence, significance, and proliferation of the Black dandy.”

Bye Bye Ferragamo CEO

Salvatore Ferragamo has announced the departure of its current CEO, Marco Gobbetti, due to a failure to increase sales. Much like other luxury brands, the Florentine-based brand has struggled to keep up with evolving trend cycles and adapting to clients' ever-changing needs. The group has yet to announce its new CEO and continues to battle speculation of a potential sale, an idea the Ferragamo family has always dismissed.

TREND WATCH: Fur

Whether it’s headbands, vests, or oversized coats–the fur trend is coming in hot. Inspired by TikTok’s “mob-wife” trend, fur coats quickly flourished into both streetwear and luxury. With the high price tag of real-fur coats, fashion fans are turning to vintage-fur coats and the second-hand market to sustainably and cost-effectively take part in the trend. Brands like Alo have even begun incorporating fur into their products, selling things like furry headbands and bomber jackets. The fur craze has just begun and is only getting bigger.
