Usher covers Vogue’s Winter 2024 Digital Issue

Usher, a household name with an expansively successful music career, recently starred on the cover of Vogue. Usher is pictured with a youth football team, alluding to his performance at the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show, and supermodel Carolyn Murphy. This cover sparked major controversy as people wondered why Usher was accompanied by a white model and not  by himself.

Pharrel’s Louis Vuitton Men’s Line is Modern Cowboy

For Louis Vuitton’s Men Fale/Winter fashion line, music producer and Men's Creative Director of Louis Vuitton Pharrel Williams has debuted a show themed around the Wild West and the history of Black and Native American cowboys. The line has received positive reviews from critics commending William’s vision of representing the historically white-washed ideas of cowboys in America, as well as for his collaborations on the line with Native fashion and jewelry designers. Gisele Covers Harper’s Bazaar and Debuts New Erewhon Smoothie 

Gisele Bündchen recently starred on the February 2024 cover of Harper’s Bazaar. In her feature, she opens up about motherhood, including her divorce from Tom Brady, cooking, and her personal sources of inspiration. Alongside her new cookbook, Nourish: Simple Recipes to Empower Your Body & Feed Your Soul, Bündchen released a new Erewhon Smoothie: the “Giselderberry” Smoothie. 

Lily Gladstone’s Historical Golden Globes Win 

On January 7th, 2024, at the 81st Golden Globes Awards, actress Lily Gladstone made history as the first indigenous woman to ever receive the award for Best Actress in a Drama Motion Picture. To play homage to her heritage, Gladstone spoke in the Blackfeet language for the first part of her speech. Throughout the rest of her speech delivered in English, Gladstone disclosed Hollywood’s historic lack of Native American representation, ending with a message of hope.

Milan Men's Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2024 

Milan Men’s Fashion Week took place on January 12th-16th, 2024. Various big-name designers, including Gucci, Prada, and Versace, alongside other notable brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Emporio Armani, and Fendi held shows. 

The Met Costume Exhibit “Women Dressing Women” 

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s fall 2023 exhibit will highlight over 70 female fashion designers, over 70 in fact. The designs will range from 1910 to the present, including French couture houses, American designers, and contemporary creators. 

The 2024 Awards Season Has Begun 

Due to the WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes of 2023, several annual award shows have been pushed back, making this year’s award season jam packed with events celebrating the best art from 2023. With the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, The Governor’s Awards, and the Emmy’s have all aired within the first few weeks of 2024, with shows Succession, The Bear, and Beef taking home many of the television awards and Oppenheimer proving to frontrun in the movie categories. As the 2024 Oscars nominations have just been released, fans can look forward to viewing The Grammys on February 4th, the SAG Awards on February 24th, and The Oscars on March 10th. Fashion Forward Showcase Applications Are Open! 

Every year, the MFMS holds our Fashion Forward Showcase, aiming to recognize college students across the country who are innovators in the art, fashion, and media worlds. The final five finalists have the opportunity to present their work at the summit and one will be awarded an exclusive professional experience. Apply before March 1st for the chance to be selected!
