WHO:

“The Collection of André Leon Talley”

André Leon Talley, American fashion editor and icon, passed away in January of last year. In addition to his media legacy, he was also the proprietor of one of the largest collections of luxury items. This January, “The Collection of André Leon Talley,” will be held in three cities and all proceeds of the auction will be donated to the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem and the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Durham. The New York Times wrote, “Mr. Talley wanted his memory contained not in the objects he acquired but how he chose to dispose of them.”

Kim Kardashian x Princess Diana

Kim Kardashian has recently purchased the Atallah Cross pendant necklace, previously worn by Princess Diana, for approximately 200,000 US dollars. The piece features an amethyst cross surrounded by diamonds and it sold for double its estimated value, according to Sotheby’s.

WHAT:

Milan Men’s Fashion Week

Milan Men’s Fashion Week took place last week and it demonstrated menswear like never before. Our personal favorite of the week was the collection by Charles Jeffrey Loverboy, a British designer who made his Milan debut. His grunge inspired looks featured pops of primary colors and were inspired by playwright James Byrne’s, The Slab Boys Trilogy. Dolce & Gabbana also stunned viewers with their elegant men’s evening wear which combined more feminine stylistic elements including lace, sequins, and corsets. Patagonia and Samsung Collaborate on New Sustainable Home Appliance

Here at the MFMS, we love a fashion and technology collaboration, especially when it promotes sustainability. We are excited that Samsung recently announced their partnership with Patagonia on a new washing-machine technology that will reduce the amount of microplastics that are released into the environment when people wash their clothes. The environmental concern of microplastics is not as illustrious in the media as other aspects of the sustainability movement, but when synthetic textiles are put in the washing machine, friction causes tiny bits of these materials to pervade the environment, causing harm to animal ecosystems and according to research, humans as well. These new appliances will feature a special plastic-catching filter that will reduce the spread of harmful materials and act as a breakthrough in current sustainable technology.
