The Loop Issue Two

WHO:

Harry Styles Drops New Pleasing Collection

Harry Styles collaborated with Paris-based fashion designer, Marc Ribeiro, on a new Pleasing collection. The collection dropped on September 29th and features a vibrant pressed pigment palette, a trio of cream pigments, a multi-use gloss, five new nail polish shades, and two hoodies. These new products represent “fun, joy, and playfulness” Harry shared in an interview with Vogue Business, qualities that shine through in his music and are shared by Ribeiro in his own work. I mean seriously, what can’t this man do!

Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty

It’s official, the 2023 Met Gala theme has dropped and generated mixed reactions. In honor of the iconic late designer, the event is inspired by Lagerfeld’s line sketches and their evolution into three-dimensional wearable pieces and will feature designs from some of the most famous fashion houses he influenced including Chanel, Fendi, and Chloé. While Lagerfeld undoubtedly earned his place as one of the most influential designers of fashion history, the public has spoken out in protest of this year's theme in opposition to his history of fatphobia. It’s impossible, however, to please everyone on the biggest night of the year.

WHAT:

Balenciaga Partners With Reflaunt

Balenciaga is hopping on the second-hand fashion bandwagon with their new resale program. While luxury companies initially worried that resale platforms would encourage counterfeits and diminish brand quality, the popularity of the resale industry has inspired brands like Balenciaga to create a comfortable and trustworthy space for patrons to resell their products without sacrificing luxury.

Prada Launches Eternal Gold Collection

Prada’s newest Eternal Gold collection is not only making brand history as the luxury company’s first ever fine-jewelry collection but is pushing industry boundaries as the first fine-jewelry collection ever to be made with 100% recycled gold. Taking things a step further, Prada expanded the traceability of their materials, making it possible to trace every diamond to its origins. These sleek and recognizable designs are not only representative of the Prada empire, but of their unique ability to intertwine the contemporary with the timeless.

Milan Fashion Week Highlights

  • Gucci “Twinsburg,” designed by Creative Director Alessandro Michele, hit the runway featuring 68 pairs of identical twins. The show highlighted the concept of duplicity in fashion. Though each model and clothing pair were nearly identical, the individuality of each model and look still shined through.

  • Dolce and Gabanna enlisted Kim Kardashian to help curate their Milan Fashion Week show by revisiting pieces from the D&G archive. After Kim’s long stretch of taking much of her fashion inspiration from Kanye, it is exciting to see her pave her own path in the fashion world.

  • Stella Jean returned to the runway after a two-year hiatus. In 2020, Jean pledged not to return to fashion week until she was no longer the only black designer. This MFW, Jean headlined the show alongside Edward Buchanan, cofounder of her brand We Are Made in Italy (WAMI), and accentuated the importance of not only representing inclusivity on the runway but within the entire creative process.

Paris Fashion Week Highlights

  • Our favorite show from Paris Fashion Week was presented by Loewe. Designer Jonothan Anderson was inspired by the anthurium flower but succeeded in creating a capsule of spectacularly unique pieces. The colorful and cutting-edge designs set new standards for avant-garde, wearable fashion.

  • Stella McCartney collaborated with Japanese artist Yoshimoto Nara on her eye-popping, vibrant runway show. What makes this show stand out, however, is the fact that this was McCartney’s most sustainable collection yet, made of 87% sustainable materials.

  • Cher made a cameo at Balmain’s Paris show as the face of the luxury brand’s new handbag campaign. Talk about iconic!

Moncler’s 70th Birthday Party

In the center of Milan’s Duomo Square, Moncler celebrated its 70th anniversary with 18,000 members of the public and some celebrities of course. The show featured nearly 2,000 models and performers, all of whom flaunted the new edition of the classic all-white Moncler.
